Welcome to Mindful Baby
Who am I
Hi I'm Laura, mum to two boys (born 2017 and 2022) and passionate about supporting women and families navigate their unique journey of infant feeding.
I am the only practitioner in York to offer mindful breastfeeding support and I am doing so because I struggled with breastfeeding my first baby, I was completely overwhelmed by all the online information and advice and desperately needed emotional support in addition to the technical aspects. Without the true support I needed - like so many others - my breastfeeding journey came to an earlier end than I had hoped and I felt real grief around that. If you ask your family and freinds how their infant feeding went, you might be suprised at the number that say they wished they had breastfed for longer/ how formula seemed like the easier (and equal) option / they thought they weren't producing enough milk, when in reality, if they had different support, their story may have been different.
I have spent over 20 years as a senior HR professional and whilst I have loved it, I needed something else aligned to my values and supporting families is it! Breastfeeding is such a wonderful experience and is what our babies need, I would like to see rates across York and the UK increase but I don't think that can happen without more support and information for parents. I also think there is a need to come away from all-or-nothing thinking, breastfeeding of any kind is amazing for babies and often, combination feeding means breastfeeding will last for longer.
After my second baby, who I was able to breastfeed until he was 19 months through the use of mindful techniques, I decided I would re-train and start my own business to suppport others.
I believe good breastfeeding support goes way beyond positioning and attachment, there are a lot of thoughts and feelings involved too, as well as societal pressures to navigate. Having someone on your side helping you through your own path in feeding and early parenthood is of enourmous benefit, resulting in calm and connection to yourself and to your baby.
My practice includes education as well as mindful techniques such as breathwork, relaxations, affirmations, self-care and self-compassion. A gorgeous concoction to help you feel really supported and settled in the early months and beyond.
